Spider Control

Spiders are usually associated with our fear of creepy, crawly things. There have been many books written, movies produced, and songs recorded about spiders, usually in a way that builds upon our fear of them.

The majority of spiders do not bother people and it's not common for people to be bitten by them.  However, they are unpleasant to look at and their webs can cause a mess if they infest your home or business. We use spider control solutions that are comprehensive and safe so the good times go uninterrupted by these nasty, creepy crawly things.

Q: How do I keep spiders out of my home?

A: There are some simple steps you can take to reduce the likelihood of spiders entering your home. First, be sure that your home is thoroughly sealed. Go around the outside of your home and check that windows, doors, and other points of entry are caulked and weatherstripped. Next, check the exterior of your home for spider webs. If you find webs in your garage, on your porch, or under your carport, use a vacuum to remove them.

Q: Where are spiders commonly found?
A: Spiders typically show up in dark, out of the way places such as basements and attics. Some species of spider are particularly drawn to moisture, while others seek out dry areas in your home.

 Q: Are spiders dangerous?
A: Most species of spiders aren’t venomous, and some have fangs that are too small to penetrate the skin of humans. However, a handful of species are highly venomous and therefore pose a serious danger to human health. The most common venomous spiders you’ll encounter in South Mississippi are the brown recluse and the black widow, both of which can deliver bites that require immediate medical treatment.

Q: How can I tell if a spider is venomous?
A: Generally speaking, the most common types of venomous spiders you’ll encounter are the black widow and brown recluse. The black widow is clearly recognizable from the large red hourglass-shaped marking visible on their abdomen. The brown recluse can be slightly more difficult to identify, but it’s certainly possible to do. Look for violin-shaped marking on top of the thorax, as this is their most distinguishing feature. If you encounter a spider in your home that you believe is poisonous, exercise extreme caution. Call Diamondhead Termite & Pest for expert assistance.

Q: How do I get rid of a spider infestation?
A: Unfortunately, eliminating a spider infestation can be extremely difficult to do on your own. Brown recluse spiders are especially difficult to get rid of. By some estimates, in fact, they’re one of the hardest pests to eliminate period. When you combine this with the fact that dealing with venomous spiders puts you at risk for a dangerous bite, it’s often best to simply contact a pest control professional rather than attempting to eliminate an infestation on your own. Diamondhead Termite & Pest has the knowledge necessary to assess your infestation and take the appropriate steps to get rid of spiders in your home.
